Illegal characters in outbound proxy

Hi ,

We have interface where an ABAP program call the outbound proxy to XI. When data is sent from ABAP program to XI it contains some Illegal special characters such as & . When this reaches to XI mapping fails as XML document is failed by XML parser.We are using SAP Web AS 6.20 wit SP50 on R/3 side.

Any help is appreciated.
