Recipe & BOM

Hi,

Where do we maintain the relationship between master recipe & BOM so that if I have more than 1 recipe for a product than I can choose the corresponding BOM also.

In fact I am bit confused when I came across postings on SDN that says that the BOM is actually a part of Master Recipe unlike Routings in discrete manufacturing, in which case I should be able to see the BOM in Master Recipe itself.

Thanks,

Arunesh

Hi,

BOMs are used in general production where as in Production Planning for process industries we name it as recipes. For one product u can have multiple BOMs those are alternative BOMs.U can choose from alternative BOMs ,the required BOM for your product.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. In fact this is the first time I m posting so didn't know reward Pts nitty gritty.

I did some some experimentation in last couple of hrs. I realized some thing which I think already had been a point of discussion on this forum. However the point was not closed.

I found the following.

1. Recipe does all the same thing as is Routing except the following :

(a) I can maintain or for that matter even create a BOM though Recipe > Production Version> BOM. The Recipe group is taken default.

(b) I can maintain no. of Prod versions for the same Recipe and so multiple BOMs for the same Recipe.

(c) The Recipe in itself stores just the Operations/Phase data.

(d) The Production version is the key between Recipe & BOM. The BOM can either be maintained independently or can be changed through Recipe, a facility which is not available in the Routing.

(e) Recipe doesnot contains the BOM in itself. It only references to BOM that too through Prod. Versions.

Except these I think, Recipe does all the things a Routing does.

Production Version is the King here. Selection of Prod Version decides the choice Recipe-BOM combination.
