Difference between ABAP of NW2004 and regular ABAP

Hi All,

Is there a difference in the ABAP for Trial NW2004 and miniSAP.

I am new to learning the language and for some reason I was unable to install miniSAP on my laptop but want to take a crack at NW2004... is there a difference...

Yes, there is. Minisap is a name used for earlier versions of the Sneak preview, like the 46D version. Netweaver is the same system, just upgraded with a lot more functionality. The NW2004s sneak preview includes Web Dynpro ABAP which you can use to quickly create web applications. It also includes BSP which allows you to have more control over the look and feel of the web application. THere has also been some major changes as to the language and syntax. I would suggest installing the NW sneak preview over the minisap as it is more up to date. You don't want to start by learning with old technology.

The counter arguments, for using an older release:

Your work system is of this older release.

You lack the computer capability to run the current version.

I have run the 6.20 and 4.6D versions of miniSAP on 256MB of RAM. NW04S recomends 1GB RAM.

The hard disk space required for these systems is:

4.6D - 2.2GB

6.10 / 6.20 - 3.5GB

NW04s (ABAP) - 10GB (22 during install).

I recommend going for the most up to date version you can.

Hi Rich and Mat

Thanks... I guess NW2004 is the way to go for me... I have the space and the mem so it should be fine...

Yesterday night I installed the NW2004... I guess today I'll check it out... and then I got the whole weekend to fiddle with it...

Thanks both of you for your quick inputs...
