Report designer limits

I have some problems inserting queries into the report designer.

It seems only queries containing only key figures in the columns can be added as data provider.

If I have a characteristic in the columns I get a message: "Report Designer does not support this query drilldown. Do you really want to delete this section ? and at least one Characteristic in Rows!". (I also have characteristics in the rows. )

When I remove the characteristic from the columns, it works.

Is my assumption correct or am I missing something ?

Ravi,

I want to use this query as data provider within the BEx Report Designer. The error message isn't very clear, I know. It's during design time that I get this error at the moment I'm inserting a data provider into a new report, so not during navigation.

I found this in the SAP help:

"Within a dynamic section, query fields can only be taken from external group levels into internal ones. In dynamic sections, the number of rows varies at runtime, whereas the number of columns is fixed. "

If I assume that this information is correct, it means that no characteristics are allowed in the columns section.

Hi Guys,

the correct answer is:

the report designer needs fixed Columns. During Designtime the numbers of columns needs to be fixed, due to mapping reasons. This means if you have 2 dynamic parts Char in rows and columns, the runtime can not identify the corresponding rowpattern which should be applied. There for the limitation Fixed columns exists. But it should be possible to have 2 structures in the columns and several characteristics in Rows.

best regards,

Kai

thanks for feedback, but:

I know what the minimum requirements are:

- a query giving a result set

- containing at least one structure (key figures)

my problem is:

A query with 3 chars in rows and 1 KF in columns is working

A query with 3 chars in rows and 1 KF in columns + one char in columns gives the error like described above.

Where do you want to use this query as as data provider?

The key figure is a must either in the rows or column if you wish to use the query as data provider. Later on you can restrict the key figure while drilling down and navigating within the result set.

Hi

Ya there is limitation,

It will allow only queries having atleast one char or structure in rows and one key fig in column.

Hi Anthony,

In Rows atleast one Characteristic or Structure(with new selections) should be there. Then u can use char anyware. Keyfigures and columns u cant add under same structure.

Assign points if it helps..
