Crystal APS service does not start after changing the SA password of MSDE.

Hi,

We are using Crystal Enterprise 8.5 installed with MSDE. We've changed the password for the "SA" as part of the company standard then the "Crystal APS" service can no longer be started. We've tried to restore the old value and it works. Are there any configuration/settings that we need to change in order for the new password to take effect? Thanks

Hi Flexzus,

Congratulations on still being able to use CE 8.5, that brings back some memories!

Anyhow, you sill need to make sure that you have edited the ODBC connection to the database with the new password and also in the CCM you will have to redefine the connection for the APS using the new password.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Flex,

Yes, the ODBC for the APS. This will point to the MSDE database.

You need to open the Crystal Configuration Manager on the server, not the Crystal Management Console. If you stop the APS, double click it to get the properties window, click on the Configuration tab. Sorry, this is all from memory, so I do not know the names of the tabs etc. You should be able to change the current APS data source to the new data source and specify the new password for the sa account.

Here is a link to a guide for CE10, which is the close to what it was in CE8.5. This will show you how to select a different data source for the APS.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the feedback. For the ODBC, are you referring to the CE85 entry? All entries can proceed using the new password.

While for the CCM, I need to restore first the old password to proceed. Are you referring to the entry under \Home\Manage Servers\"hostname.aps"\secEnterprise:Administrator

Account Name: Administrator not SA

Thanks,

Flex
