Experience with Virtual PC for Portal/Java EE development with JDI?

Hi,

We are currently evaluating how the developer PC setup for portal/Java EE development with Java Development Infrastructure should be. The development will be mainly of WebDynpro components developed in a JDI track with RFC connections to various SAP backend systems.

One of the alternatives which have surfaced is the use of Microsoft Virtual PC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_pc). Basically, we create one image for the Virtual PC which contains a installed and configured developer workplace system with our latest content. This image should then be used by all developers (who might do some small configuration tasks) and updated when needed.

<b>Has anyone any experience with such a setup ? </b>

The difficult areas I think will be:

-SLD (could probably manually add the existing SAP backend system to the Virtual PC local SLD without too much problems)

-Same SID (might not be so critical)

-JDI (will it work with activities, etc. Should really be no problem as far as I can see)

Cheers

Dagfinn
