sap pi AS2 : Encryptions

Need a conceptual understanding on encryption level in SAP PI AS2 receiver channel.

There is Signing and Encryption tab.In Signing we specify certificate. This certificate too has encryption algorithm like SHA1 (Old) , SHA2 (with difference hash functions).

What does certificate encrypt ?.Only signature or payload ?

Second question: We get encryption option separately using 3DES ,RC2 few more.Does this encryption does payload encryption ?

    Aditya,

Signing means you are sending one digital certificate to the receiver to validate that he is the desired recipient but it doesn't guarantee that the messages can be monitored by some other party.

Encryption protect the payload so that only the desired receipent can unsrcamble it to read.

    Thanks,

    Apu
