classification view of material master

Hi Expertise,

Would any body so kind to tell me "what is the main use of classification view of material master".

As per my knowledge it mainly use for searching material.

I have created some material with classification view(class with characteristics).

But while ordering (through PO) or receiving material it is not asking me for entering the character of that material.

I would be much appreciate your quick response.
