what is functionality of doc. category?

hi,

one functionality is i will categorized the doc into different functions.

A IN

B QT

C OR

D

H RETURN

J DEL

apart from this is there any functionality for the doc category?

    Hi Hari,

    Different types of documents category are:

    A Inquiry

    B Quotation

    C Order

    D Item proposal

    E Scheduling agreement

    and many more.They play an important role because if for e.g. you change document category from lets say B to C,then you will not be able to use the document in VA21,instead that will be used in VA01.

    but yes there are many more like returns,credit memo which can be used in VA01.

    As you said this is the functionality of document type

    A classification for the different types of documents that you can process in the sales and distribution system (for example: quotations, sales orders, deliveries, and invoices).

    Use

    The document category determines how the system stores and keeps track of document data. It enables the system to provide you with status information about delivery processing, billing, and documents that are used for reference (for example, inquiries and quotations).

    Hi,

    By using document category we can find business object also.

    Basically all the interfaces like ALE,and RFC uses bapi fucnction modules.

    For bapi function modules business object number is important.

    This business object is find in SD by using documet category only.

    Along with this in work flow event trigger mecanisam will also done by using

    business object.Again this business object is find by using document category.

    Hi Hari,

    Document Category basically used to diffrentiate between different documents based on the sales process where it is used.

    like a - inquiry

    b-quotation

    c-sales order

    j-delivery etc

    Document Category Control & Identifies the functionality of particular documents. As you have listed, it clearly specifies type of document.

    Hi,

    The document category indicates the type of follow-on document that is to be created. It can also be used to control how a particular type of follow-on document is to be processed. You can transfer the document categories in an intermediate document (IDoc) or define them in a profile for controlling documents in Customizing.

    <b>Regarding to the question </b> it is through the sales documents can be categorized.

    The field name is VBTYP. and is used to identify which type of documents it is whether

    inquiry

    quotation

    order

    returns

    credit memo

    returns for delivery,

    etc.
