Dear collegues,

thanks for sharing update to roadmap with us (published May 😎

4 questions:

  1. R suppport is nowhere mentioned? eg connecting HANA to R-Server.
  2. In the past roadmap you were more detailed on technical architecture. So called version 4.x was supposed to be based on XSA and some parts on BO-Plattform. Can you share some details on current roadmap architecture. Especially as current predictive factory requires not only a Windows server, but also that "old" predictive server.
  3. You mention under current 3.1 predictive factory that it is "Fiori-based". For future, so 3.2 onwards, you do not even mention "Fiori-based" let alone UI5.
  4. Mainstream support for version 3 will end June 8, 2018.
    -->13 more months.
So am I correct in assuming that next major version 4.0 is going to be GA end of 2017?

thx, C

Hi Clemens,

Thanks for a great set of questions. I guess you are refering to our public roadmap freshly published here.

https://support.sap.com/content/dam/website/roadmaps/en_us/analytics/SAP%20BusinessObjects%20Predict...

1. R suppport is nowhere mentioned? eg connecting HANA to R-Server.

There are no changes to the way the SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics Suite can leverage HANA and R-Server capabilities to support the needs of advanced users & data scientists. This will continue to work, as it always did.

R support is mentioned in slide 7 (ie: R support in Expert Analytics) - but this maybe could be made even more explicit.

2. In the past roadmap you were more detailed on technical architecture. So called version 4.x was supposed to be based on XSA and some parts on BO-Plattform. Can you share some details on current roadmap architecture. Especially as current predictive factory requires not only a Windows server, but also that "old" predictive server.

I would kindly refer you to slide 11 in our public roadmap, this slide is showing our strategic direction and the strategic investment we are doing in unifying all our capabilities under the Predictive Factory umbrella. Please note in our 3.x product line, both the Predictive Factory and the PA Server can be deployed into a single Windows HANA box. We hear from some of our customers the need to deploy Factory to a Linux environment as well, we are currently exploring this topic. Nothing has changed in our future release 3.2 on the underlying platform (a stripped down version of BOE). We can think of adding architecture slides in our next roadmap iteration if that makes sense to multiple people.

    3. You mention under current 3.1 predictive factory that it is "Fiori-based". For future, so 3.2 onwards, you do not even mention "Fiori-based" let alone UI5.

No changes to our plans there: Predictive Factory is our Fiori-UI flagship product and future unified platform. At short term, we plan to deliver Automated Classification & Regression model creation capabilities as part of 3.2, with a streamlined, enhanced and rocking user experience. We will think about adding a more explicit Fiori/UI5 mention in further iteration of the roadmap

    4. Mainstream support for version 3 will end June 8, 2018. -->13 more months. So am I correct in assuming that next major version 4.0 is going to be GA end of 2017?

We do not comment or announce future release dates, as per SAP policies.

I informed the roadmap owners about your questions and will let them comment more in the answers if need be.

      Kind regards, Antoine
