Unicode import

Hi all,

I am doing an export of a non-unicode MSSQL database now, and I will be importing the new, unicode database soon. In order to import the newly exported database into a unicode system, do I have to start SAPInst, and install a unicode central instance?

Can someone please clarify this procedure for me? The Unicode Conversion Guide really didn't tell me much about this particular issue.

Thanks!

Regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

When export is completed (or even while export is running) you can start you target Unicode system installation but instead of default Export DVDs, you need to use the exported data.

Hi Mike,

I have to install the new unicode system on the same server. Should I just install the central instance "on top" of the current central instance that is there? Any special steps I need to perform?

Hi,

Once your export is done. Uninstall the Source systems and install target (unicode system) and import.

I have done the same.

Hi Kedar.

Do I have to uninstall the source system, and remove the source database? My fear is that the export has gone wrong in some way, and that the import will fail for some reason. If this happends, I will have to perform a new export... Which will be difficult without having to restore the source system again... a time consuming process.

Regards,

Thomas
