Please tell me the details of what needs to be done in SPAD txn and the details to be filled.Suppose the printer to be assigned is HPLaserJet 1020 and detail of access method is HPLase Jet 1200

Hi Jagadish,

First of all you are not very clear about your requirements.

When i need to setup printers in sap, with the printers to the particular PC i need to know the steps of what to be done in SPAD..

By this I understand you are talking about front end printing which will allow users to print to printers to which their PCs have access.

In this case Device Type will be SAPWIN

Host spool access method will be F(Front end printing)

If you are talking about remote printing then you can use either Berkley protocol (U) or SAP protocol(S)as Host spool access method. In this case you need to have a print server to which printers are configured and saplpd service should be running on it.

Then you can give the name of the remote printer in host printer field and IP address/hostname details of the printer server in destination host.

The you have local printing.

Here also you need to make similar settings in SPAD only change being Host spool access method will be L(local). But in this the printers need to be configured on your SAP application server.

Better still instead of posting questions for printing basics in forum please read the basics on your own as well. Please visit this link:

Dear Jagadish,

Please check your printer data cable (paralel cable). I ever have the same symptom. I have replaced it with shorter one and it works.

Hello Jagadish,

Please use F as host spool access method and not L. F is the one to be used for front end printing.

Hi,

Yes,the query was on front end printing.

But when i enter the details such as device type as SWIN and host spool access method as L:Print Locally ..

Also the output device has also been created .

now when i give the print option..and when it asks for the output device, i gave the one i created. Also the print did not come and when i saw SAPLPD it displayed only listening..and it did not print...

can u suggest me why?...

Should i have to create a new device type ?

Hi Jagadish,

On your SAP client PC, you can set F : Frontend Printing access method (I assume that you are using Windows OS). You should install at least one printer on that PC and set that printer as default Windows printer.

on SPAD -Access Method tab, fill this one

1. Host Spool Access Method = F

2. Host printer = __default (remember double underscore)

When you are printing with F output device, SAPGUI atomatically will call SAPLPD daemon (if it was not running yet).

You can also use S access method type. For your convenience, you can download SAPsprint software (called xsprintxxx). Install it your your client. Define new output device using S access method.

On Access Method tab, use :

1. Host Spool Access Method = S

2. Host printer = (name of your printer)

For your printer name, do not use space and keep it simple name.

3. Destination host = IP of your PC

Hope that can help.
