Sequence of Executing Workflows

Hi Experts,

We have 3 workflows for an opportunity with timing on create to update a field value of the same field. We cannot have dependent workflows to trigger them in sequence hence we are trying to check the sequence in which the workflows are triggered. However after testing we were not able to conclude the sequence of workflows is based on the technical name of the workflow, the field or the conditions? Everytime the 3 workflow were triggered randomly when checked in the workflow log. The execution time being the same. Have anyone come across such a scenario where we need to trigger the workflows in a specific sequence?

Dear Prajit,

You can make use of Scheduled Timing feature, where you can control the sequence of the workflow rule.

This way, every rule can have their own timings to trigger, as long as the action to be performed is quick, the second rule shouldn't trigger before 1st rule is done executing.

Hi Shivanand,

We ultimately scheduled our workflows as a workaround for the requirement. However out of curousity we want to know how technically the workflow rules work. We initially thought few options like it is based on the created date and time of the Rule, Name of the workflow rule. But while testing we could not conclude any of the above options.

It will be useful to know when we want to perform multiple actions at the same time in the same object.
