Hello all,

We have an requirement for establishing connections between the SAP (which runs on the AS400 server with DB2) and an AS400 server(Non-SAP). I have referred the SAP note(146624 and few other SAP notes). I saw that XDA versions needs to be installed. But thing is i need to get more clarity on that.

Any helpful answers are appreciated.

Warm Regards

Hi Manikandan,

on what release levels are the two IBM i machines? If they are not too old, you should use XDN rather than XDA (see SAP Note 1257635). In order to use XDN, the SAP Host Agent must be installed (and started) on the IBM i server without SAP. See SAP Note 1031096 for prerequisites and installation instructions for the SAP Host Agent.

Once the SAP Host Agent is installed and started on the IBM i server without SAP, you can configure a secondary connection from your SAP system as described in SAP Note 146624 (follow "XDN" whenever there is a distinction between XDN and XDA). You do not need to install any additional client software on the SAP system on IBM i.

If you cannot install the SAP Host Agent on the IBM i server without SAP, you may be able to use XDA. However, as far as I know XDA only supports release support from N to N-2, so if the release difference between the two IBM i machines is too large, XDA may not work. In newer releases, SAP code has completely changed to use XDN rather than XDA, so trying to setup a connection through XDA is bearing some risk (if it works at all).

Kind regards,

Christian Bartels.
