Barcode C128 not taking SPACES in final output

Hello Experts,

We are using C128 barcode to create barcode in one of our application related to EHS GLM.

Barcode is concatenation of two fields firstName (max character can be 15) and lastName (max character can be 15), so in all size of barcode can be maximum 30 characters.

Now our requirement is, in case firstName is less than 15 characters then barcode should show firstName followed by remaining space i.e. (15 - number of characters in firstName) spaces and then LastName should start appearing.

Example, if firstName: Harish and lastName: Vyas, then Barcode generated should be

"HARISH VYAS".

From the custom FM responsible for generating BARCODE, we are passing character string with all the required spaces i.e. space between firstName and lastName, but in the output form it is coming out as "HARISHVYAS" rather than "HARISH VYAS".

Need help from experts in case we are missing somewhere.

Regards,

Harish

C128? I am assuming you mean Code 128A or Code 128B - Code 128C being numeric only. What are you using to print the barcode - in other words, what happens after it leaves your custom function module? There are potential forms, printer drivers, print servers, printers all that could influence how the barcode is printed. It could also be your scanner - some scanners can be configured to eliminate spaces from the scanned data.

A couple of simple things to eliminate the second - use an online tool to create a barcode with a name-space-name using the same symbology - 128A or 128B and try scanning it with the same scanner. Then try scanning with another scanner - for example a phone with a barcode scanning app. See if there are any differences.
