Homogenious system copy for copying SAP ECC 6.0 from OS/400 V5 to V7

Hi

We have new system running OS/400 V7, and we want to copy the SAP system from our old system running OS/400 V5, will it work by just copying the libraries ? or we must do export / import ?

What is the best easiest practice?

Regards

In general, the homogeneous system copy by SAVLIB/RSTLIB should work. Between version 5 and version 6, structural changes in database and program objects were introduced that require an internal conversion of database and program objects. This conversion is executed automatically at first touch of each object, but that would cause performance degradation in your SAP system after the upgrade. To avoid that, you can convert all objects at once after the restore using the command STROBJCVN.

To prepare the system copy, read section a ("Issues Resolved Without an IBM PTF") for all of the following SAP Notes up to your target release:

1148480 - IBM i: Known Issues with V6R1Mx

1432783 - IBM i: Known Issues with OS Release IBM i 7.1

2011710 - IBM i: Known Issues with OS Release IBM i 7.2

2299407 - IBM i: Known Issues with OS Release IBM i 7.3

Also read section b ("Issues Resolved by the Latest IBM Infoapar") and section c ("Issues Resolved by a PTF Which Is Not (Yet) Included in the Infoapar") for your target release.

Kind regards, Christian Bartels.

Thanks Chris,

I believe this is one of the strong points in System i, on other platforms we would have to go through lengthly heterogenious system copy.
