Breaking down values of a column in UDT

I have a customer type column that gives different account types a customer has in a single row separated by pipe character.

I want to know if there is a way to split these values at universe level and make an object with list

Actual Data:
Customer Name: Account Type
ABCD: Savings | Credit Card | Mortgage | Car Loan
XYZ: Car Loan | Credit Card | Checking

Assumptions: Account Types order can change (based on age of the account); all customers may not have all types of accounts.

Customer Type object with LOV's -
Credit Card
Car Loan

so that users can filter the report by the Customer Type

Assumption: 1) Users will only filter 1 type of customer while running the report
2) Customers with 2 account types should appear in the report when it's run with either one value selected

I tried using substr() & pos() functions but, its not giving correct values as I'm not able to give correct lengths after the '|' symbol

Any help with regards to this is highly appreciated
