I have a HP-UX server running SAP R/3 Enterprise, SAP BASIS 6.20

an unknown statistics program writes a lot of files into

/usr/sap/VSN/DVEBMGS00/data directory (they look like stat100, stat88 and so on). every hour.

How to turn off this activity?

Thank you very much!

Hello Pavel,

the 'unknown statistics program' is called work process ))

The files are simply the statistic files containing the single statistic records (you can display them using transaction STAD). Starting with basis release 46D not longer one statistic file is written for each instance but one file for each hour. Details about this can be found in note 6833, section "As of Release 4.6D".

You could turn off the creation of statistic files changing the parameter stat/level to 0, but this is not recommended as both the single statistic records (STAD) and the cummulated workload data (ST03/ST03N) would not longer be available.

If you are afraid of the amount of disk space the files use you could decrease the number of files stored. Per default the last 48 hours are stored on filesystem level. You can change this in ST03 (Collector and Performance DB - Workload Collector - Control Data: Delete dialog step statistics files if older than xx hours).

But please note that as a consequence STAD will only be able to display the single statistic records as far as you configure the mentioned settigs!
