SAP CRM Performance issue

We access CRM functionlities using SAP Portal. While performing the INBOX search the users were reporting slow return of search results and even other users reported overall slowness of Portal. On analysis we found that the CPU Utilisation had spiked to 70-90% for one of the two server of CRM system and the users who were getting redirected to this server experienced slowness. On further analysis we found that one user's session was stuck in BALHDR table sequential read in SM50 tcode. This process had taken upto 20 mins which otherwise returns result within few minutes. Once we killed the process in SM50 the system's performance and CPU utilization came back to normal.

SAP CRM 7 EHP1

SAP EP 7.02

MSSQL 2008 r2

Windows 2008 r2

Please let me know on how to find the actual cause of this issue.
