Hi,

our customer has asked to make a comparison between M7.0 server versus MI2.5, like what exactly is the difference, advantages, disadvantages. Based on this comparison they will decide which version to go with for the implementation of MAM 3.0.

Does anybody know about any published documents on this topic?

Thanks in advance,

Larissa Limarova

Hi Larissa,

I heard from some Basis people that SAP is not sending 04 DVD for customers anymore. By the way, Mobile Administrator in MI 7 is so much better than Web Console in MI 2.5 as Sivakumar told, that I recommend you to start using MI 7 SP10 instead of using MI 2.5.

Remember starting using MI 7 in SPs10 in case you choose MI 7.

Hi Larissa,

Adding to Siva's comments, it is recommended to use MI 7.0 since the end of maintainence is 2013 and with MI2.5 is 2010.

Hope this helps,

Hi Larissa

Here are the differences

1. In MI 7.0 only ABAP Sync Service can be used for synchronization while in MI 2.5 you can use either ABAP Sync Service or JAVA Sync Sevlet for synchronization. The advantage of using ABAP Sync Service is, there is no dependency on the J2EE Engine during synchronization since the sync servlet is deployed in the J2EE Engine.

2. In MI 7.0 only Netweaver Administrator can be used for administering and monitoring the devices while in 2.5 you can either use the MI Web Console or NetWeaver Administrator. If NetWeaver Administrator is used instead of Web Console, you dont have to go the middleware transations to perform admininstrative jobs. Most of the transactions have been integrated in the NetWeaver Administrator UI itself. For eg. you can define an Installation Sequence in the NetWeaver Administrator itself intead of using MCD transation.

Also if you use both ABAP Sync Service and Netweaver Administrator together, you can make use tools for monitoring synchronization. There are monitors like Generic Sync Queue monitor, Smart Sync Resource Consumption monitor and so on and this will help the administrator to know the time taken for sync and also the resource consumed and it detect errors if any easily.

Apart from these two major differences/enhancements both MI 2.5 and MI 7.0 are the same and no differences either between client and server in terms of functionality. ie. for eg. MI 7.0 SPs 09 is same as MI 2.5 SP18 and so is MI 7.0SPs10 equivalent to MI 2.5 SP19. Also please refer to Product Availablity Matrix in http://www.service.sap.com/pam to know information regarding the End of Product Maintenance for both 04 and 04s. Based on these you can decide on which version to use.

Hope this information is useful

Best Regards

Sivakumar
