This morning I was trying to classify a part and no matter what decription I inserted it delivered the message 'No values for this selection'. I tried 'mount', a common part description to see if this would work and it did not.
Thanking you,
Ramesh
Hi,
two things to check,
Are you sure that you are using the correct class type (001 normally for materials) and which transaction are you using to search.
Secondly make sure that the description characteristic is not flagged as "case sensitive".
Try the search again with no specific entry, do you get all of the materials listed? Do they all have the description filled?

Hi,
Are you saying that you want to create a class and have the two characteristics (name and value) added to it?
Or do these already exist and you are asking how to assign values to them?
Which transaction do you mean?
I am not sure what you wanted, please can you describe your question in a different way (sorry) and answer the above?
Steve B
No Problem Thanks for your response
I had to assign the Class Type to the material
Now I am not sure if the Class type is tied to the Mater Number or based on the material type
I created a Test Class in Class Type 200
Now I want to enter the Name and the values for the Class type
I am using CL01 transaction for that
Is there any specific Way to assign name and values to the class
Also I am trying to understand the relationship between
Material -
ClassType------Class
Can we have multiple Class type assigned to a single Material
Can we have Multiple Character values for the Class tye
Right now there are no valuse for any Class types
I have to Created them
Hope you will understand my question
Thanks
Hi,
If you have set up the class and linked the characteristics then you can link the class to the material either using the classification functions or simply add the classification view in MM01 (or change it in MM02).
You can have mulitple classes, mul;tiple class types (as long as the class type is relevant to materials). You can have multiple values for a acharacteristic (if the characteristic has been flagged as allowing multiple values).
the classification system in SAP is VERY powerful and VERY flexible and VERY under-utilised.
It is well worth using it whenever it is likely to help.
