    Dear balaji,

Multi Intialization is nothing but Multiple Intializations for the the same datasource with out overlapping selections .

Lets say you are extracting Purchasing data, and you have more than7 years of data which is millions ...so when doing the Init for the first time ,its always not advicable to do the complete Fill up of setup tables at a single shot as it is going to take lot of system resources , and mind you , when filling in the production it really takes time ...so if this is the situation , you can do a Multiple Initializations by filling the Setup tables for one year each ( without overlapping selections) , and do 7 Init Requests ,and when the delta runs, it automatically takes up the entire Inti Request and gets the delta..

    7Years of Data..

    2000 -- 1st Init

    2001 -- 2nd Init.

    ...2007 -- 7 th init ..

and your delta works with 2000 - 2007 (combining all the Init reqs ) ..This increases the performace of load and even doesnt put heavy load on R/ 3 .

    Hope you understand.

    Thanks,

    Krish

    Hi,

like to add some more points

Multiple initializations can only be done from the infosources and not generated datasources.

So if you are thinking of doing multiple initializations from ODs to cube, it is not possible and it's possible only from R/3 to BW data target through infosource.

Also when you try to do multiple init from to a ODS then take care that the selection in the init should be based on the keys of the ODS i.e even if the inits are based on the time selection if it is not present in the keys the init will not work as it will bring the duplicate records for the characteristics which are in keys of the ODS..

But if your loading in the cube then it's fine.

    Hope it makes more clear.

    Thanks
