Hi,

Basically it is best to have one role transported at once.

If you have derived roles then you can assing these derived roles to single transport.

You can have multiple roles transport at once.

In some situations you need to re-import or do some changes its is easy to maintain.

pls explain why?

in real life we transport a large number of roles at the same time and it would be a hassle to have to create a seperate transport for each. We do know that to many roles in a transport causes time issues, so we try to limit or 100 roles in a single transport.

Hi Auke,

Its a good question.

What is the process which you are following to move requests into PRD.

I mean approval process.

In any business sneario you need to have approval to move the requests to PRD.

Techinically you can add multiple roles into single request.

I am just trying to give real time example which we face problem if we have mutliple roles in single request.

Example

If you have Ten roles changes and you have different BPO's for each role.

You need to wait till all are apporved and all are teste ok.

Even it helps us for audit purpose...

And if dont consider the above seniario. well as you said its time issues.

I hope I am clear.

when we bundle the roles changed for the same request we alreays come above the 100 roles limit most of the times, so we that split it for performance reasons.

So the approval part is not often a means to limit the number of roels in a transport.

I am working with a system that has 800+ roles all derived from one. (I did not design this!!) however when I come to transport I know that it will time out due to the amount I want to transport as the system idle time is set to the SAP standard 600 seconds. I know it is not recommended to change the system idle time so was wondering how many 'reasonably' can be put in via mass transport at once and commit to the transport without the system producing a run time error, I have been putting in 100 but for future reference I was just inquiring if anyone has done more with no issue. I also am aware that due to server capacity/speed each instance will be unique. Thanks for your answers guys.

Hi Peter,

Frankly there is no limit as such but you have to be careful. When using mass transport option in PFCG in you give a very large number of roles SAP might give dump when saving the roles in the transport. Not only is the number of roles important but also the content they are carrying. If you are transporting a role with large amount of authorization data prefer to release the transport in background mode.

Coming back to number I would suggest to include not more than 300-350 roles in a transport. I have faced scenarios where I had to transport 3000 odd roles at a time and I had make use of 9-10 transports.

Please award points accordingly.
