Information Structure

Hi,

What is an information structure? What is it used for in layman term? I have read about it in the help file but don't really understand what it means. Is it just sort of a table that stores info in the fields that is based on your definition? How is it used in the planning table? I tried setting it up but kept getting the error that "Structure not yet maintained for this combination of characteristics". However, this is a pre-configured info structure and thus in my understading, it has already been maintained.

    Hi Sue lin Tan

    There are various Information structures. I think you are referring to LIS. Production quantities/confirmations are usually updated in those LIS DB tables. These can be of help to analyze scrap data or even forecast demand for the next year.

      Yes. It refers to LIS. I am just wondering if you create your own info structure, what is it used for? One of the use based on my understanding is that it can be use to put customer forecast into the planning table. Is that possible?

    Hi,

    Information structures are used in flexible planning in production planning, by using flexible planning we can plan across different hirerchies in an organization ,

    i,e we can plan across different key figures which are not available in standard sop .

    for using any information structure in planning table first check wheather the information structure is in creation phase or in active.

    the infostructures which are in active mode can only be used in planning table .

      I need to clarify something with you though. How do you plan across different hierarchies? I am not sure how to create those hierarchies though I have read on the help on creating hierarchies. What does hierarchies actually do? How do you create them?

      I have also tried to create my own info structure. However, i kept getting errors. I am trying to use the info structure for my planning table as I am have customer forecast that is based on material and customer.

      Can you help to clarify or provide me with a website that might have these info? I have been looking at help files but I am not really getting anywhere.
