AS ABAP only or ABAP AS+JAVA AS

Dear Experts,

Our whole solution landscape include ECC 6.0 and BW 7.0. my question is do we need to have AS ABAP + AS Java on ECC 6.0 are AS ABAP enough for our landscape.

Please tell me what will happen if we donot install AS Java on ECC 6.0.

and the core pupose of having AS ABAP + AS JAVA.

please revert back if u donot understad my words i will explain them again..

    Hi

if you don't opt for AS JAVA, you will not be able to access, EP & rest of JAVA dependent components/ units. if you are sure, in future, u don't think of EP or rest of the units, u can forget about AS JAVA.

before, starting installation, go thru the Master document of NW 04s.

    fyi,

" You need BI Java including EP, if you want to use the new SAP NetWeaver 2004s integrated planning functionality. Without BI Java and EPl, you can only use the SAP NetWeaver BI 3.5 (previously SAP BW 3.5) Business Planning and Simulation functions in combination with the 3.x runtime."

i hope this info will help u.

    with BR,

    Rajesh.

    Hello,

    Good question, indeed!

You can go with ABAP only installation, but some constraints later you may have to face...

If your BW Team required WAD or Visual composer tools and other tools sets which only supported in JAVA then you need to consider the Java installation again.

It's good practice to get ABAP + java installation as all coming scenarios are java depended in future mostly from functional perspective. But you need to consider hardware too before getting java system, you can switch off the java node if you don't required at a moment..

I hope you got your answer!

    Br,

    Amit

The above answer from friends are correct and adding with it if you are having central server installation done then installing AS JAVA is not an problem and its better to go with it but if you are installing SAP on clustering like 2 server or 3 server PRD then better consider you need JAVA or not as installing AS JAVA nad AS ABAP on mutilpe PRD server will take life out of you bcaz the java component i faced complication when the Java cluster was created but while fail over it was messing up might be due to heavy component hence later i had to go with AS ABAP. So its like sweet also bitter when taken more 😊)

    Cheers

    Hi Zeeshan,

First thing first, If you are only deploying mysapERP 2005 on the technology component ECC 6.0, then i dont think you may have to install the AS-JAVA. I believe also your BW 7.0 must be hosted on a different hardware.

So you may not need to install AS-JAVA at all.

Now, lets look at another scenario, with ECC 6.0 you have components like Cprojects which if you wish to use, then its best to have a AS-JAVA as it predominantly works on the JAVA stack.

Even if you plan for a portal in some years to come, then i would recommend you not to use the current system which may be AS (JAVA + ABAP) as this add load on the current hardware resources.

Let me know if you have any more queries on the same.

    Regards,

    Abhijeet

      hi Abhijeet,

      thank you for your reply

you got it right, we are in the process of implementing ECC6.0 and BW 7.0

Regarding Hardware, do we need separate servers for ECC6.0 and BW7.0

or can we group them on the same server.

Our solution landscape includes the following:

One server for Solution Manager (4GB RAM, Dual Core 3.0 X 2, RAID Controller)

One server for Development Server (4GB RAM, Dual Core 3.0 X 2, RAID Controller)

One server for QA and Testing Server (4GB RAM, Dual Core 3.0 X 2, RAID Controller)

One server for Production Server (Cluster ECC6.0) (8GB RAM, Dual Core 3.0 X 2, RAID Controller)

One server for Production Server (Cluster SQL) (8GB RAM, Dual Core 3.0 X 2, RAID Controller)

One Data Center connected to the Cluster with over 1TB with two arrays and RAID Controller

What are the advantages and disadvantages

the BW users are estimated not to exceed 15 users

the ECC6.0 users are estimated not to exceed 100 users

What do we have to do if those number double?

Kindly reply including whether we need to install JAVA on any server

      Regards
