Material Search

Our company is implementing SAP and we have just completed blue print stage. Now we are discussing the search capability in MM. As per consultant the search can be only with short description. But we are interested in searching any part of material information available like all the attributes etc. Please send your comment on it.

Proabable you can go for the development of a Match code for searching the material with your requirment . This match code will be avl in the material search.

Becuase in Std SAP , u can search a material with the short desription and lot many are vavl like material type,plant etc...

I am totally new to SAP. Could you please explain more about match code. Is it part of the std SAP. If so please provide transaction code to access this option. In our legacy system(AS400) the material search can search any part of the information available for material.

Click the blue info button when in the transaction to review the matter in SAP library.

Hi ,

In that case first u have to decide in which fields of SAP u are going to store the infromation of the material . There are additional fields avl in the material master like Basic Material, Ext Material group, Size and dimension etc. otherwise u need to go for classificaiton (Mateial Class) to store the data in the material master.

Once u decide on these funcitonal aspects , Please take the help of the abaper to develop the match code for your requirement

For your kind info ... each material you can create as many as 29 tabs/views.(i.e. basic data1, basic data1, sales, purchase,accounting, MRP, warehouse, etc.,)

again in that you have so many fields each has specific purpose. Above that there are material types (like RM, FG,SFG, consumable etc).

Provide some attributes .. we will try...

Thanks for your response. But this screen is not showing all the attributes for the material. We have more than 15 to 20 fields for the material data. I want to search every field available for the material information. including the long description.
