Ask MRP to ignore long lead time parts

We operate a number of BOMS with varying lead times. When an order is placed, stock of the remaining raw materials with shorted lead times is allocated to the order. This would be fine if it wasn't holding up subsequent orders that could use the available stock for their production. As the long lead time items can't be used till everything arrives, all other items using common parts are held up.

I hope that makes sense. Is there a configuration setting we aren't using properly or is it a non-standard feature that we perhaps haven't got?

One option is to define a short planning horizon in customizing (OPPQ) and if plan your materials using key NETPL. In this case, long term requirements will not be planned by MRP.

However, it is a good practice to periodically run a regenerative MRP run, in order to ensure that all the requirements will be covered, and in this case the long term requirements would be planned by MRP.

The only way to ensure that they will never be planned by MRP is to making those requirements not relevant to MRP using a BAdI. See the blog below for details:
