SSO with Portal from external PHP application

Hello,

I've one PHP intranet hosted on AIX server and the last version of SAP Portal hosted on a different server. I would like to implement a single sign on from the php application to sap portal so that users identify only against the php application.

What is the best way to achieve this ? I read trough the help library but I'm lost with all the different solutions.
