First of all, I think your query shouldn't be in this forum, but I will answer anyhow.

TDMS was introduced to create test data in your QA system from Production or a production copy. Before even TDMS existed, we started evaulating the tool from Intrascapes called SelectRefresh, which extracts the data from prod copy in to flat files and then loads the data into QA system as and when they require test data in QA.

Basis team is involved only to set-up initial config for them like RFC connections, NFS mount between source and target for the landingstrip, rest of the work should be handled by TechnoFunctional guy. ( ABAP+Functional person).

    Hi Vinoth,

Please be a little more specific about the target of the solution you are looking for. "transferring data from one server to other server" can be needed for any reason and TDMS, ALE, XI all have their (dis)advantages for certain scenarios.

    Regarding the other questions:

    2. To run TDMS, no ABAP code needs to be written. It's the basis guys who perfom client or system copies to setup test systems and they are usually the ones to work with TDMS as well.

    3. TDMS comes as an standard AddOn into your system. All operating can be performed on the TDMS process tree which guides you step by step through the whole process of the data transfer to your test system. Basicly it's a little configuration (like entering information for RFC destinations) and running a couple of steps that will do all the work needed.

    4. TDMS uses direct table-to-table data transfer via RFC and is made to transfer a huge amount of data in a short period of time. ALE is focusing on correct application and transaction handling, used to transfer all kinds of business objects and you'd never transfer whole clients via ALE. XI is like ALE message based, but uses XML and with its numerous adapters, mapping and process control features, is the best choice to be the central message and business process management server in the landscape. -But you won't transfer gigabytes of data through your XI to setup a test system.

    Best regards,
