Joint Production and phantom asembly (BOM)

Dear All,

I am seeking guidance regarding the BOM maintenance of a primary product for joint production. To make the maintenance easier/increase readability for the users we were discussing the option of using phantom assemblies instead of entering all components by hand...

Simple example: material A (i.e. left hinge) is manufactured with Material B (right hinge) which can be produced on it's own as well. Material B contains components B1 and B2.

I am aware that the BOM for material A has to contain components of material B, as well as a negative quantity for B.

BOM material A; base quantity 1

==> material B -1, co-product ticked

==> component B1 1

==> component B2 1

In a regular production order I would be able to enter material B as a phantom assembly (BOM item: MRP data: phantom item + special procurement 50). The production order would then explode the BOM for material B and add the components.

BOM material A; base quantity 1; with phantom assembly

==> material B -1; co-product ticked

==> material B 1; phantom assembly; recursive allowed

But as soon as co-product for material B is ticket, SAP gives the error msg that the BOM for material B is recursive. Even if I enable recursive allowed, the production order would not explode the BOM due to this "error msg". Hence, component B1 and B2 are not added...

What are your recommendations? How would you maintain the BOM for a joint production material?
