BW on HANA : system copy using export/import method

Hi Experts,

We are planning to perform BW on HANA homogeneous system copy using SWPM(export/import) method. However the source HANA DB is scaled out across 8 nodes and target DB is planned for only 3 nodes.

In this scenario, can you let us know if we need perform any specific preparations on target DB for the import process?

Does the import process looks for any specific DB configuration (no of nodes) on the target to match with source ?

Hi Vihari,

I assume you have already installed the target HANA DB as scale-out system, if you're using the standard export/import method, there's no additional preparation on target DB. Think about this, the SWPM tool doesn't know if you're going to using single HANA host or multi host for target system, so all things will be standardized.

You may need to re-distribute the table or partition on the target HANA DB system after the import is done, I'm not sure if the SWPM will take care of it automatically.

Michael

Hi Micheal,

Yes.That is my thinking as well for this standard export/import approach.Logically, all swpm will look for is a node to import the data. But i could not find any specific note or SAP document that can confirm this. Can you suggest any?

All i could find was the below note where SAP says to have both source and target DB's to have same number of active services before restore of the target. But i believe that is specific to backup/restore method.

Hi Vihari,

I agree with you, that also applies to system replication scenario, the target system must have the exactly same number of active server. That's why I didn't mention system replication at the first place, but it may be an option if you can temporarily "remove" some of your active server from source system, but that seems impossible in most cases.

Please check the following note, but I can't verify it for you as I don't have the access the such a big system. Please share the feedback if you can as I'm very intested in this topic!

For HANA SP63 and higher

For HANA lower than SP62

1819123 - BW on SAP HANA SP5: landscape redistribution

Hello,

I am not sure that this question is already answered . .But..

We need to match number of index server config in the target with source in the .ini parameters .

Hello

You can follow the Document - SAP First Guidance – Business Warehouse on SAP HANA Installation

During the Import you will be asked for the Table Distributing again

Best Regards Roland
