Purchase Order Automation in Direct Procurment with Subcontractor

Hi SAP Experts,

Here's my scenario, this is direct procurement in which we send several parts (a kit) that eventually equates to a finished product to a subcontractor. This particular product is configurable finished product and therefore not the same each time.

In this case the buyer must await a production planner's confirmation that all goods are available in stock before sending the purchase order to a subcontractor who subsequently receives, assembles and tests the kit as a finished product.

Our desire is to implement AutoPO with this subcontractor; however, if we were to automate this process as it exists now the subcontractor would likely receive incomplete kits without the human intervention from the production planner who conducts the inventory analysis to ensure all required subcomponents are in stock. Also please keep in mind that the production planner also pulls missing inventory into stock if their inventory analysis indicates such measures.

So my question is has anyone experienced a similar scenario and was still somehow able to implement AutoPO with such a subcontractor. Based on my experience I would say that without increasing inventory levels to avoid the need for the production planner's inventory analysis this wouldn't be possible; however, I thought it would not hurt to ask for thoughts on this scenario.
