Enable intra-partition parallelism, BW 3.5

Hi,

We are running the following set-up :

BW 3.5, DB2 v8.2, AIX 5.2, 12 cpu, 75 gb ram, 7 partitions.

The Database Manager Configuration parameter INTRA_PARALLEL is set to "NO".

What's the performance gain (if any !) if we set the value to "YES" ? (with the current configuration : 12 cpu's/7 partitions).

If we add 2 more cpu's is it then a "must" to set INTRA_PARALLEL to "YES" ?

MAX_QUERYDEGREE should also be set.

Thanks in advance for help, hints and opinions.

Rgds,

Christian

Hi Christian,

For BW systems SAP recommends to set INTRA_PARALLEL = YES if you have more CPU's than partitions and the system is NOT CPU bound. If your system still has free CPU cycles you should turn it on. In general BW queries can gain performance by being executed in parallel. If you turn intra_parallel on you should also set MAX_QUERYDEGREE = 4.

Joachim
