Providing a "catalog" of available production reports

Hi,

My company is currently looking at providing a method for presenting all our production reports to our end users (probably via Web browser). Requirements include publishing documentation on the reports useage intent and a list of a report's fields with detailed business descriptions of the fields in the report. The ability to select a field and search the "library" for reports that use that field is also being looked at.

Wondering if anyone has already undergone this type of task and would be willing to provide some details and/or advice. If anyone knows of a forum post or Weblog that may already cover this information that would be great as well.
