HANA Express Edition VM Windows 10 - Java EE Eclipse Neon - Cannot access system on host

I installed VM Player 12 and imported the OVA file for HANA Express Edition.

When using HANA Admin console within Eclipse EE Neon and adding a system, i get the message "Cannot acces system on host..."

I verified the inet addr from VM and i also was able to ping the Host-IP from my Windows 10.

I also turned the Windows firewall off, same result, no access.

What is meant by the option "Network bridged" what I have been read as possible solutions in other questions ?

Any general hints ?

Hello Frank,

thanks for your answer. I know now what Network Adapter Bridged in VMware means. I checked my settings and it is already set to "bridged".

It worries me, that each time i start the VMPlayer with HANA express edition and checking the inet addr with /sbin/ifconfig i got each time a different IP address (at the last . section) Does this one needs to be "constant" regarding the settings in the hosts file ?

Regarding the settings within Eclipse, i followed the how-to-document "https://www.sap.com/developer/how-tos/2016/09/hxe-howto-eclipse.html" and i used the instance 90 as well as Multiple containers and System database.

Is there any log file written, when trying to reach the VM-HANA from Eclipse, so that i can dig a little bit deeper to determine the cause ?

Best regards
Dieter

Hello Dieter,

Network Adapter Bridged in VMware means that the virtual machine is directly connected to your physical network as if was a real machine. I prefer this setting over NAT, where the virtual machine shares the IP address of the host, because it makes my SAP HANA, epress edition easier accessible from other machines in my network.

Concerning your connection issue from Eclipse, do you specify the correct Instance Number? Some SAP HANA, express editions use instance number 90. Also, do you specify Multiple containers and System database, if that is the database you want to connect to, since, as far as I know, all SAP HANA, express editions use SAP HANA Multitenant Database Containers:

Best regards
