Collaboration Room Maintenance takes Long time to Load. Why?

Hi ,

I have created one private room in which Iam having 3000 users, but when after adding these users when i click on save it gets struck for nearly half an hour and does not load at last. But If go Room member list I can see all users.

My Question :Is it not a practical way to add so many members in a single room?Any Limit?.I think it is a performance issue because we are on EP6.0SP10 .

In future I am going to upgrade but how can I do it temporarily make that room accessible to all.?Now if i click on room maintenance it does not load,so in future i can not add members also.Is there any software and hardware requirements which improve this performance?

Help would be Greatly appreciated

Hi Rani,

Upgrade is the best and I'm afraid also the only way to improve performance here as there have been done in this area a lot of changes since NW04 SPS10 to improve performance s.f.a.I.k.

Hope this helps,

Hi Robert,

Thanks .Short and sweet answer.:-).I can get away by saying this to my client(But True SP10 is old),I get page can not be displayed after some time when i click on Room maintenance.

Other thing is we have SAP Web Dispatcher between browser and portal,so in tems of performance, can i add some extra server nodes to improve overall performance of portal atleast temporarily?Am I thinking in a right direction ?Any Idea?Any other way?I heard that accessing portal through internet make it a bit slow.Is it True?

Hope to get more picture on this.

Hi Rani,

I have had similar experience of adding huge group of users to the collaboration rooms. I was in a situation where around 22,000 users had to be added and we were on SPS16 believe me it consumes a lot of time to add users of this size, we upgraded to SPS18 and the issue was resolved as SPS17 and upwards allows you to add user groups. In your case when you add user groups, the users in the group are expanded and added to the room maintenance page hence the loading is so slow and the same thing happens again if you make any changes and save. I sincerely suggested upgrading as I have gone through the similar situation.

About SAP webdispatcher, you are thinking in the right direction if your requirement is load balancing. Accessing portal through internet is another dimension to it. Do you know how many users will be accessing it through internet? Have you already explored alternates like VPN ( if the user base is not too large)?

Hi Anupama,

It has been a very helpful answer as you also encounter the same problem in practical situations. Now i should really think about Upgrade as soon as possible.

Thanks, but let me know something more about SAP Webdispatcher.Does it distribute the load across uniformly?means if i have more no of users ,at the same time should i also have more server nodes to distribute those request among all processors?Around 1000 users access through internet

If you have any idea may I know a bit more about this:"Have you already explored alternates like VPN ( if the user base is not too large)?"

Thanks for your Time Again

Hi,

About webdispatcher I have a document which might help you decide on the scaling and distribution. Send me your email id across.

I was referring to VPN in case there are like 12-20 users who are external to the organisation and they need to access portal over the internet. I dont think that is the case with you. Drop this and go ahead with the webdispatcher as load balancer.
