Table field EDID4-SEGNUM is type NUMC 6 -> answer is 999.999 segments maximum

Sorry but this question just doesn't seem to make any sense... There are no "data records" in the segment, there are just fields. It's in the segment definition what data goes into it. And segment definition is a structure, so you could put however many fields in it, it's likely limited by Data Dictionary and your DB. To be honest, I'm too lazy to even look for such information because it seems meaningless as data in an IDoc segment would be limited logically rather than technically. E.g. if you need to stuff "War and Peace" into an IDoc segment then you're not using your system correctly. Whatever business data we have in SAP will surely fit in an IDoc.

Why is this even a question? And why do you care?

+1 for Jelena comment and questions. An IDoc is made of segments, and a segment is made of character fields for a maximum of approximately 960 characters.

I'm really curious why do you need to know this...

Hi Hoda,

Goto Transaction WE60 , Give idoc basic type , there you will get the minimum and maximum number of segments of a idoc.

Thanks,
