Report MDX Performance Issues and SAP Note1858257

Hi,

For some very odd reason, we are recently experiencing huge performance issues on our production server. For example, reports that used to run for 30 minutes now run for 2-3 hours. Of course, I am trying to figure out what may have changed from one month to the next, but not winning for now. (This has almost happened overnight)

One of the solutions being offered to us come from SAP Note 1858257, but it's quite complex and I am reluctant to just implement the changes in production. (It's difficult to replicate the issue in our Dev / QA environment for various reasons, hardware differences being one of them)

Note 1858257 has three sections:

  1. Making changes via SM30 to UJ0_PARAM adding _MBRSET to the ENGINE_TYPE values.
  2. Running UJ0_SYS_PARAM_REGEN to generate ACCOUNT_TYPE_ALIGNED
  3. Changing IMG parameters ENABLE)MBRSET_ASYNC_EXPAND and PTD2_TO_BASE_THRESHOLD

Has anyone got any experience with this Note that they could perhaps share?

Kind Regards

Nick

Nick,

Is this BW MDX or HANA MDX? You may want to refer to KBA 2193471 - BPC NW 10.0/10.1 Report Troubleshooting guide - Performance and Incorrect Results

Best regards,

Charlie

Can you explain what happened immediately before the issue?

Please provide detailed version info.

Hi Charlie and Vadim,

Many thanks for coming back to me on this one. Perhaps I should have put the version in when writing the question. I was more concerned about the Note and if anyone had seen it. I probably should have closed it, too (this was from April '17)

This was for a BPC 10.0 SP04 on BW 7.31 on SQL Server system. Very far behind in Service Packs / Upgrades.

I wish we knew what had changed from the before the issue to after it presented itself. Nothing we could find. The system basically ground itself to a halt with the SQL temp files maxxing out the disk during even simple queries.

Fortunately, we have recently migrated to BPC 10.1 on BW 7.51 Stack 2, on HANA, so the problem has gone. Thankfully.

Again, appreciate your assistance.

Kind Regards

Nick
