Is ESA defined by SAP?

Hi,

I know that Web services are well defined and in use from quite a long. How about Enterprise Services? Is the term defined by SAP and has been implemented by only SAP. Or was it in use with other enterprise products?

Thanks to answer me,

Aruna

IMHO SAP recently is a bit manic in trying to coin new terms (cf. BPX). Probably this has to do with their intellectual property (IP) attitude.

Out of this came ESA. ESA has been described as SAP's blueprint of the SOA paradigm. The term ESA lead to so much confusion and so many questions that about one year after its invention SAP renamed it to ESOA or Enterprise SOA. This quickly cleared much of the confusion.

What still holds true is, that ESOA is SAP's blueprint of SOA. That is, commonly known SOA patterns and techniques (web services, SOAP) and some (valuable) SAP frameworks to design, manage and execute services in an enterprise environment (e.g. the Enterprise Service Repository ESR).

hope this helps,

SAP Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA) has been defined by SAP as "an open architecture for adaptive business solutions". ESA is enabled by the SAP NetWeaver platform, and builds on the benefits of Web services. SAP has positioned ESA to deliver the benefits offered by service-oriented architecture, including enabling both flexibility and business efficiency. SAP state that ESA provides companies with a "cost-effective blueprint for composing innovative new applications by extending existing systems, while maintaining a level of flexibility that makes future process changes cost-effective.

Hope this helps.

A quick internet search showed that the term is also in use by others, e.g. in .NET. But half of the hits deal with SAP Enterprise Services.

Yes. ESA (Enterprise Service Architecture) gives step by step Business Process stack.SAP delivered more services based on ESA methodology. This is for common and very useful to make seamless Integration.
