Starting a forum thread for those of us who are upgrading to SCM 5.0 Please comment on the scope and/or challenges of your project. Please post any advice.

Our upgrade project begins in January. We will migrate from SCM 4.0 SP 18 to 5.0. Integrated with R/3 4.6C and NetWeaver BI.

I expect our primary challenges will be the evaluation of existing customer exit logic. Also we plan for several waves of integration tests.

Regards,

Mike

We are also upgrading to 5.0.....The follwing challenges and problems we have faced so far..

We have received many errors and it was really pain to go thruogh each and every error....top of that APO is not giving you vary specific error or some times there are no verbitze for the error..

Follow the steps below will help you lot

Extract the time series to an Info cube before the upgrade

Upgrade the system

De-initialie and Reinitialize the DP/SNP Planning area

Reload the Time series following the upgrade

Adjust the Like profiles

If Old like profile to be used then must assign the planning area to every like profile

If Existing LIKE profile cannot be assigned to several planning area, You must create the LIKE profile for second planning area manuallt with new name

Adjust the Phase-In/Out profile

If Existing Phase-In/Out profile cannot be assigned to several planning area, You must create the Phase-In/Out profile for second planning area manuallt with new name

Adjust the assignment table ( /SAPAPO/FCST_LC was replaced by /SAPAPO/FCST_LC1)

Activate all Infocubes by executing the RSDG_CUBE_ACTIVATE report

Check/Adjust the palnning area Data source

Convert the Note Anchor tables - Execute /SAPAPO/TS_NOTES_CONVERT_40 Report

If inconsistence - execute /SAPAPO/TS_GEN_DOCTAB_CHECK report

Check the converted notes for interactive planning

You must create the DB tables for the planning object structure/planning area - using taransction /SAPAPO/RLGCOPY

Realignment and copying steps must be stored in new DB tables

Adjust planning object ID with /SAPAPO/TS_D_OBJECTS_COPY

Use report ZZZ_MACROS_CONS_CHECK to activate the Macros

Hi Alpesh - this is useful info. What does ZZZ_MACROS_CONS_CHECK do? Mass check/activation of macros? Anything other than check/activation occuring in the program?

Thanks

Andy

This is reinitializing the Macro and sync with the new structures.

Ths code is provided in the OSS not for this program just copy the code here and run it.

Some iprovement of SAP 5.0 regarding on MACROs are:

-Total Forecast

-Ship and forecast differences/variances

-Calculate percentage variance

-Manual correction field output only in past

-Zero out future forecast (e.g Monthly)

-Zero out future manual correction (e.g Monthly)

-Alert macro less than 100 and more than 100

Another improvements also Production Planner will be transfered from R/3 MRP Controller througgh CIF but the pre-requisite is production planner should exist in APO.

A lot more customizations in alert notofication engine.(e.g CIF errors are sent to users inbox through the function CIF post processing alerts.

Hello All,

I have successfully completed the upgrade from APO 3.0A to SCM 5.0. Module implemented was - Demand Planning and VMI.

We faced few issues related to APO-BI related to Nav. Attributes.

Peformance issue while loading the data back to LC.

Useful SAP Notes for the upgrade.

Important OSS Notes for our refrence

505930 - Activities after upgrading from APO 3.0 to 3.1 in DP

588986 - Demand Planning actions after upgrade to SCM 4.0

684929 - Actions in DP after upgrade to Release SCM 4.1

832393 - Release Restrictions for SCM 5

853797 - Actions to perform in DP after you upgrade to SCM 5.0

906789 - BW Related

534894 BW Related

892482 BW Related

692369 - Global SNP settings could not be read

With the help of above OSS notes you prepare a checklist of the task to be perform as per the Business process with the category as Pre upgrade activities, During Upgrade (e.g. reload the data from back cube to Live cache etc). and Post upgrade activities.

Before handing over the upgraded system, Please perform the all the task as per the check list sothat Users will be happy to recieve 0% defect upgraded system!!!

All the best for your SCM 5.0 Upgrade projects.

Hi Anjali,

I am very happy to read your inputs about your upgrade project APO 3.0 - SCM5.0.

We are planning to do the same thing.

I heard some comments saying: it would not be possible to upgrade APO3.0 to SCM 5.0 directly, you have to upgrade in two steps:

1) APO 3.0 to SCM 4.x

2) and then SCM 5.0

I am not sure it is true. could you please share your experiences with me?

Thank for your response in advance!

Hi Alam,

Config documents for respective APO modules are available under help.sap.com >> Best Practices. Look into the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/scm/learning+map">learning Map</a> link in SCM Wiki and select the Building Block (Configuration) Library link.

Requesting documents over personal email is not a suggested practice and hence its being removed from your message.

Thanks,

Somnath

Hello Anjali / Somnath,

This is an interesting thread. It may be great to know whether an upgrade to the R/3 system (say to ERP 6.0) has been done in all these scenarios discussed here.

Look forward to your thoughts, incase of a worst case scenario - say upgrade the APO from 3.1 to SCM 5.0 while keeping the R/3 system at 4.5x

Hai Bhavesh,

Why don't you post this as a new post? You get lot more attention than there? There are few topics in this forum about the time series activation problems. There could be many reasons including your CVCs maintenance.

Thanks.

I am planning to upgrade from APO 3.0a to SCM 5.0 SR2 and have been asked to wait while the APO team looks at SCM 5.1.

Is anyone else considering SCM 5.1?

Thanks

Hello Mike and Others,

I have upgraded my APO system from 3.0 to 4.0 and planning now to upgrade again to 5.0.

What I would like to suggest that you need to refer upgrade OSS notes before you start actual upgrade. That has helped me a lot. There are various functional and technical (ABAP/BASIS) notes on upgrade which tell us what are the activities we must do before handing over the system for testing/production.

In fact I had presented a paper on how to do APO upgrade last year which had lot of tips on upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Could some share if in the upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0 all objects need to be re-configured in 5.0 or if this can be done as a normal upgrade. I heared as SCM 5.0 is based on Netweaver now, all objects need to be re-configured.

Thanks for your replies

HI,

You can use the old objects as it is. If you do not want to use BI7.0 new functionalities. For upgrade point of view no need to change any objects.

if require you can check all old objects as it is in the Transaction RSA1OLD.

Hi,

An upgrade is inevitable given the licensing and the limited support that SAP will provide for older versions. The SCM 5.0 version functionally will be able to cover every functionality that was available in SCM 4.0. If you want to use the additional functionality that is available in SCM 5.0 and scope some work based on that you can take a look at the release notes that is available on help.sap.com in the SCM 5.0 area.

The technical assessment will be available in the "system requirements" that can be located in the service marketplace.

The upgrade master guide will have the technical as well as some of the typical functional steps to be carried out during the upgrade. In addition please check notes OSS "832393 - Release Restrictions for SCM 5.0", "853797 - Actions to perform in DP after you upgrade to SCM 5.0" and "865334 - Upgrade SCM 5.0 Macros in DP and SNP."
