Visual Composer first steps

Former Member

Hello,

We are working on NW04s SPS9

Up until today I used Web Dynpro for all my development tasks.

I would like to start working with Visual Composer but when I go to the download center I see many files to download. Can someone please:

1. Direct me to the installation files I need for my version and explain me what each one means?

2. Direct me to initial documents such as HowTo's and tutorials for beginners?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Roy,

I think Visual Composer is part of EP since NW04s SP8. In the SDN you find a lot of how-to's.

Hello Marcel,

Thank you for the info yet the VC needs to be installed locally on my machine like NWDS...

Hi Roy,

you told us, that you are already working on NW04s, so you have already installed the system, then you must have also the Visual Composer. You only need the Internet Explorer 6 with flash plugin, MSXML Parser and Adobe SVGViewer.

The you can use VC via IE with the URL:

http://yoursystem:yourport/VC

10X Marcel, I didn't know that, I thought that local installation required as well...

How can I verify that my browser has Adobe SVGViewer and where can I download it from?

You get the plugin from http://www.adobe.com/svg.

The flash plugin and svgviewer you get from adobe website and the msxml parser you can download from microsoft. Another advice do not update to internet explorer 7, because the SAP tools including VC doesn't supported by IE7 yet.

If you start VC and a plugin (flash, svgviewer, msxml parser) is missing on your pc, there will a message appear on the screen.

Marcel

Hello all,

When I go to the vc URL at: http://<server>:50000/VC I receive an 404 Nlot found error. As far as I understood it should come with NW04s installation... any ideas?

I found the installation guide, I'll follow it.

So it is not simply install & browse...

Hi Roy,

which SPS do you use? Have you the correct port? I remember that our base admin told me that port 50100 is default, but can be changed.

Hi Marcel,

I am on SPS9, but I didn't try port 50010, I thought the default port for VC is 50000...

Hi Roy,

now the detailed information from my base admin:

port: 5<instancenumber>00

e.g. for you first instance (01) you get port 50100. But this can be changed by your admin.

There is no default port for your VC, if your portal is already running, you use the

http://yourserver:yourserverport/VC

Then you should get the login screen of your portal, for login to Visual Composer.

Ok guys I found the port (it is 50000 in our case).

When I login I see this message:

-

Roles specification: You don't have a Visual Composer role.

Contact your administrator to get help

-

Which roles should I assign to myself in order to start working?

Two more things:

1. The installation document requires Microsoft XML Parser 4.0 but the latest I find is Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 SP5.

2. I can't find Adobe Flash plug-in on Adobe website.

Hi Roy,

have a look for MS XML Parser 4.0 SP2 on the microsoft download page.

On the adobe website you find the flash player <a href="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BIOW">here.</a>

Now, enjoy VC.

Best Regards,

Marcel
