Temporary storage locations

One of my client sites, there is a requirement to create temporary locations where materials need to be tracked. These temporary locations can exist from few days to few weeks.

Also there may be a need to tarck the exact place of a material in that temporary location.

What is the best way to accomplish this.

Business scenario is like this - They conduct Event planning. So they carry their materials to the events in different places. These events can last from few days to few weeks. They want to track the materials also pin point in which shed a particular material is.

Any ideas on this are appreciated.

Hi ,

You can always edit the address of the storage locations. Since this flexibility is available , you can define a set of storage locations for this purpose, and re use them as and when the address locations change.

One way of handling this scenario would be , transfer post the goods to the storage location representing an event at a location. Once the even is over , do the transfer posting back to the issuing storage location , modify the address of the storage location thats defined for the event as per the new location of the event. Issue goods , by transfer posting .

In case there are no changes to the stocks of the goods issued for the event , and just the address is changing , you may just edit the address , as and when the event location changes.

Hope this would suffice your requirement.

There is no thing such as temporary locations in mySAP as per my understanding.

As a consultant I would query you as to why you need to create a new storage location ??

Under what circumstance does the business plans to use this storage locaiton.

One of my view point is that you could be using it for storing damaged goods or moving the goods that are to be scrapped. The reason why business would like to do is due to the requirement that correct inventory is reflected at Site(Plant)/Storage location combination.

In all circumstance you will have to create a New storage location and control the goods movement into this storage location via the Authorization Matrix.

If i have to interpet the text posted "Also there may be a need to track the exact place of Material in that temporary location". This would me WMS would be active for this storage location.
