Information Design Tool Java Runtime Error

Former Member

Hi All,

Trying to install SAP Crystal Reports tools 4.1 SP08 throws a Java Runtime Error when trying to launch Information Design Tool (IDT). I did not find any relevant notes in the KBA search but I am looking to see if a specific issue with Java is the source of the issue. note the JRE 1.8.0_102 is installed on a Windows 10 machine. No errors during the install process.

I know its old but check your InformationDesignTool.ini change the path where the java runtime is. SAP uses its on java runtime what you installed with OS.

There should be some issue with the installation, am guessing its the first your are accessing IDT post installation. Try to install JRE version 8, this should solve your issue or try to re-install IDT with admin rights.

Can you check the following?

- C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\sapjvm\bin\java exist?

- JAVA_HOME is set to Oracle JVM other than SAP JVM in System Variables?

I agree with this. Based on the error message it is looking for a JRE under sapjvm/bin location.
Also I am just wondering if you would need a 32bit JRE as IDT is a 32 bit application. This is something you can check.

Hi Steven,

Abhilasha is correct, you'll need a 32bit oracle client as well, as IDT is a 32bit application.

Thanks,
