Kowledge base creation_Configurable products

Hi,

We are trying to replicate Configurable products from R/3 to CRM. The CRM version is 5.0 and R/3 system is R/3 4.6B.

Issues while creating Knowledge Base.

In our case, the Configurable product has 3 profiles assigned to it. And each profile has a class assigned. e.g. for configurable material

. Profile P1 – Class C1 – Class type CT1

. Profile P2 – Class C2 – Class type CT3

. Profile P3 – Class C2 – Class type CT3

While creating KB we need to make the following entries:

a. Material or class from which you want to start configuration as the OO class

b. Variant class type (Only one entry can be made)

Question 1. Do we need to create KB objects for the configurable materials OR their classes (wrt point a)?

Question 2. In this scenario do we need to create three KB’s, one for each class type (wrt point b)?

Thanks and regards,

SAURABH

Hi Surab,

You have to maintain the necessary material configuration, knowledgebase and runtime versions in R/3. You need to execute the initial download once for knowledgebase object. Then during the configurable material download, the knowledgebase and runtime versions will get downloaded automatically in CRM database. IPC will get these configurations automatically during the order creation in online and in ISA webshop. You need to configure the appropriate URL to point to IPC in PCUI and in CRM online. The configuration works in the similar way like R/3

CRM communicates IPC through the table COMM_IPC_URL. You need to enter the appropriate URL for IPC in this table.

Hope this helps you..

Regards,

Ravi

Hi ravi,

Thanks for the info. It was helpful.

But my query is more during the time of creation of K.Base and their run time version. Please refer to my message above and see if you can provide some information.

[uAlso with respect to your mail:

a) Can I assume that Configurable products functionality is available in PCUI? Plz validate.

b) Any idea if this is also available in IC Web client.

Thanks,

SAURABh

Hi Saurabh,

Here are answers to your questions:

Question 1. Do we need to create KB objects for the configurable materials OR their classes (wrt point a)?

Technically, both is possible. However, all integrated SAP scenarios use material based KBs.

So don't use class-based KBs.

Question 2. In this scenario do we need to create three KB’s, one for each class type (wrt point b)?

No, you can assign multiple profiles to one KB. In fact, this can accelerate performace by avoiding redundancies (it's more efficient to create 10 KBs with 10 products each rather than 100 KBs with 1 product). On the other hand, too large KBs raise questions about version handling, buffering etc.. Rule of thumb: GO along the lines of similar products (product families) which share data.

a) Can I assume that Configurable products functionality is available in PCUI?

Yes, it is.

b) Any idea if this is also available in IC Web client.

Yes, it is.

Shravanya,

could you please open a new thread for your question. It is not related to configurable products.
