Beneficiary for Benefits

We have a requirement to allow Employees to maintain their Beneficiaries in ESS at anytime of the year. We currently have Family Member subtypes such as Spouse, Child, Grandchild for IT0167 plans and in order to be allowed to enroll must provide legal proof. My issue would be that when the Beneficiary is updated for Insurance plans, (IT0169) the record is updated with a new validity date. Is there a way the record does not update with a new validity date just because of a Beneficiary change? We have created a new Adjustment reason code called Beneficiary. Is there another way to allow for the Beneficiary changes in ESS without a adjustment reason code? Also do you have to create subtypes for Beneficiaries? Can you just have free text for Life Plans so the Employee is responsible for updating the relationship?

two questions...

1. What version are you on (no mention of backend or frontend)?

2. Why would you NOT want validity dates on the beneficiary? I would think for legal purposes you would....or at least a "paper trail" of the updates/changes.

We are on ERP 6 and this would be on both backend and frontend. We could use the "changed on" and "changed by" fields to see when the last update would be.
