CDM - BD64 - in ABAP Stack of XI for IDoc - IDoc scenario

Hi every one,

I am working on an Idoc to Idoc scenario, I happened to observe that there is no CDM maintained in any of the application systems addressing ABAP stack of XI.

Scenario is working fine. But I would like to know the reason behind it.

Is it because the role of XI is integration server and that of the sender and reciver is application system.

Please clarify me.
