What is the difference between alv_List_display AND alv_Grid _display?

Hi all ,

Please explain me the exact difference b/w alv_List_display AND alv_Grid _display . I found that we pass same parameters in both FMs. why should we go for Grid _display in stead of List display .i mean what can be and can't be done in respect to both Function Modules.
