ESS/MSS and unicode

Hi,

We will soon be implementing the latest ESS/MSS WebDynpro version using the Portal and ERP2005 (ECC 6.0).

Should the ECC6.0 ABAP stack be unicode or can you run it non-unicode for ESS/MSS?

SAP note 838402 and other material I've read recently states that there is a risk of data loss during data transfer from J2EE stack to non-unicode ABAP stack using WebDynpro/Java applications and SAP won't fully support this environment.

Has anyone experienced any problems with the integration between J2EE and ABAP non-unicode?

I'm sure we'll have to do a unicode conversion of ECC6.0 after we've upgraded and before we do the ESS/MSS implementation. In the ESS/MSS install and configuration guides it doesn't state whether or not the ABAP part needs to be unicode or not.

regards,

Sean
