We have a requirement to store the current inventory balance in an ODS. No date, just materials and on-hand balance.
My question is, is it better to update it though material movements or is there a way to just extract inventory balance info (like a snap-shot), where we can delete the contents of the ODS and then refill.
Will reward.
We already have the standard inventory cube activated and is being filled. However, we want to extract the current balance. We have tried RSCRM_BAPI over the cube, but the cube is growing. Our idea is to create an ODS with no date field.
If we now want to initialize this new ODS, do we have to run the Stock Initialization for just the ODS and then change the BF and UM deltas to update both the current cube and the new ODS? Will that work?
Thanks in adavance.

Hi George,
How are you doing.
1. I can think of two solutions for this scenario...like if you are concerned about the RSRCRM_BAPI limitation of key figures then you can use a work around instead of BAPI that is
First get your Infocube data through your Inventory report into an ODS through APD (Analysis process designer) so you will have your stock balances in calculated form, and from this ODS by using the Open Hub Service to move the data from ODS.
2. I think you can straightaway update the ODS from your Infocube which is already having all the data. like data mart scenario and then do deltas from next time.
This is my understanding on the inventory scenario.
thanks

If you want to storre inventory i recommend you to activate the standard Inventory Cube and follows the best practices, i have done a few times and it was worked OK.
If you want i can send the best practices with a document that explain how to handle inventory managment.
