BO Design Studio showing incorrect version after BIP upgrade

We just upgraded one of our systems from BO 4.1 SP6 Patch 4 to version 4.2 SP03 patch 5. In our previous version we had design Studio 1.6 SP2 Patch1 installed.

We ran through the upgrade without any issue. We performed the upgrade in the following sequence:

1. Upgraded BOE 4.1 SP6 Patch 4 to 4.2 SP3.

2. Patched to version BOE 4.2 SP3 patch 5.

3. Reinstall BO Design studio 1.6 SP2 patch 1 from the old media we had, but this time we used the scripts/executables that were under the "42" folder (when we extracted design studio it extracted 3 folders, 40, 41 and 42).

The installer worked and it showed that we were installing the correct version, however once the installer finished. it showed that we had installed "Design Studio 1.6 for BI Platform 4.1". This however is not the option we selected. When we go under the "installdata" directory and pull up the Inventory.txt we can see that the older version still shows even though we ran the installer for 4.2.

The BO design studio servers inside the CMC seem to be running ok and we are able to launch design studio through launchpad without issue. We are concerned however that the installer has a bug or issue.

Any ideas on the same?

Hi Tammy - Just to let you know, this issue has been resolved after we performed the below.

1. Uninstalled the existing BIP Add-On

2. Restarted SIA and Tomcat

3. Installed BIP Add-on for 4.2

Yes Tammy we did see that. In our case even the inventory.txt is showing the incorrect version.

We have reached out to support, and they have asked us to un-install 4.1 BIP add-on, and then install 4.2 BIP add-on again.

Looks like you do have to check the inventory.txt file

It states: "

BI Platform 4.2 SP03 environment has an existing SAP Design Studio 1.6 SP00 for BI Platform 4.2 installed.Then upgraded SAP Design Studio to SAP Design Studio 1.6 SP03 for BI Platform 4.2 update.SAP Design Studio 1.6 SP03 for BI Platform 4.2 is installed successfully.When checking the patch level version in Control Panel, it is still showing “SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio 1.6 for BI Platform 4.2", this is the same as after when one installed SP00.SP03 is expected to be displayed in the Control Panel.
This is a known issue by our installation (installer maker) team. To get a reliable information you should go to the installation folder on BIP server and get the inventory.txt file. It will reflect the exact version your BI Platform has."

Thanks Tammy for your response.

Actually if we see the software download for 1.6 SP2 Patch 1, we do not see the modified date different from when we downloaded in SMP. will this still can make any difference?

Is there any other way that we can confirm what version it is in? Apart from checking in inventory.txt. The services are running OK and at quick look we are able to open the dashboards OK.

Prakash - this happens a lot, and if it is not time-sensitive I usually ignore the warnings.

But to be on the safe side, I recommend re-downloading the Design Studio BI4.2 add-on (support packs) from Service Marketplace and installing again - ideally in a DEV/Sandbox first to ensure there's no side effects.
